CASTELLO BANFI Merlot 2004
designation: Mandrielle
vineyard: N/A
region: Italy - Tuscany
review date:
2008-02-02

Castello Banfi Mandrielle Banfi continues to keep their standards high and consistently keep delivering standouts with this recent expression of 100% Merlot. I might sound a little like a real estate agent here but location, location, location; that is what provides the unique flavors exhibited in this wine. Tightly structured the 2004 Castello Banfi Mandrielle from the Sant' Antimo appellation has potential to become a soft, supple, delight in a few years. The ripe fruit and floral perfumed aromas follow through with an immediate assault of ripe cherries on the palate, following with firm tannins that express another unique characteristic of this wine. The restraint and balance developing now in this wine alludes to Mandrielle’s aging potential. The finish is lingering almost smoky, devoid of astringency. Banfi has another winner with this really great Merlot that stands apart and delivers serious structure. Worthy of being a celebration wine and versatile enough to fit in anywhere (MDME).
