Lioco Indica

The 2006 Lioco Indica from Mendocino County is an interesting find from a producer primarily known for Chardonnay and Pinot noir. It’s a blend of old-vine Carignan (87%) and Petite Sirah (13%), producing a distinctive flavor that carries through from start to finish. What's impressive about this wine is its ability to showcase its personality. Carignan can sometimes lack in individuality

and is often overshadowed by acidity and tannin. This wine has a solid backbone with juicy bites of cherry, raspberry and violet followed by a chewy, dusty, spice box, blackberry finish. This is a knuckle dragging, hulking monster of a wine that will stare down and almost overshadow any spicy, well seasoned cuisine, and just like the other kind of indica, it's not for the timid! Drink now through 2010; 1860 case production, ~Pamela Heiligenthal
