ROBERT OATLEY Chardonnay 2007
designation: N/A
vineyard: N/A
region: Australia
review date:

Robert Oatley

Though the Oatley brand is relatively new, this being only the second release, it is founded on serious pedigree; experienced winemaker (James Manners, ex-Montrose), well-established vineyards (Mudgee, NSW) and Oatley (captain of Rosemount at its height) business principles alike.

Whilst the market at home has yet to wake-up to the evolution of Australian Chardonnay, which is a decade away from over-oaked, over-alcoholic “Chardy”, this is yet another solid example in the modernist style; though medium to full-bodied this shows measured restraint, more about citrus, and melon than stonefruit, with hints of toasted cashew, well-supported by subtle (high-quality) oak. The palate is supremely balanced - creamy with a citrus thrust; a nice counter-balance for richer chicken dishes. Food Match: Abla's Chicken & Rice ~Peter Nixon
