Sausal Zinfandel

The cool late weather in 2006 did not let these grapes become fully blown in their ripening producing a concentrated quality wine with a lot less in common with the style of Zinfandel I like to plan my meals around. Elegant and restrained, the 2006 Sausal Family Zinfandel has a bold structure without the extreme character I like to associate with Zinfandel.

Don’t get me wrong – it's a great wine. You could sip this without food and even share it with the most ardent wine snob and even they would be impressed. Aromas of dark, riper than ripe blackberries that mush when you touch them and fresh cinnamon still in stick form just brewed up for potion no one

wants to speak of but knows will work if you believe. Let's get back on track - the Sonoma spirit guides will be upset if I continue on this path! The wine is wonderful and it will pair with all grilled beef, smoked pork, roasted game hen and cheeses that require a bit of fruit and acidity to cleanse the palate.

That is sort of like the legend that continues with great zinfandel from Sausal Family. Grill some food, invite some friends, and count on a wine that will conquer even the smokiest of BBQ and a great Philly cheese steak. ~Marc Hinton
