Salvatore Molettieri Irapinia Aglianico

This is a full-bodied Aglianico – luscious, intense and flavorful. The best Aglianico I have reviewed this year. Actually, this is the only Aglianico I have reviewed this year but I would say we are of to a pretty good start.

My local wine steward did not have a super recommendation on this wine but he’s mostly a beer drinker so I went against his advice and bought it anyway, I’m glad I did. 100% Aglianico this was a pretty complex wine for a single varietal.

The aromas were complex with bright red fruit and cigarbox leaning toward cedar. Drinking this wine it was soft on the palette for an Aglianico especially one at this price-point. At five years in the bottle, I would say this wine is drinking as good as it’s going to get but it still has a few good years left in it. If you have not experienced this varietal this one is worth checking out. ~Marc Hinton
